Please, don’t tell the truth !

“Toute vérité n’est pas bonne à dire !”

This French saying recommends not telling the truth when truth deserves not  being told for the sake of public interest. Hence a tendency in this country to decide when an where communication makes sense. The motivation is often generous but the result somehow frustrating and counterproductive.

Take the example of financial and stocks information. Though one could easily understand the danger of dramatised events for investors, lack of accurate explanation about the intertwined relations between the behaviour of a firm and the stock price of it may fuel massive private investors distrust. When stock values bearing “Buy” or “Keep” recommendations fall by more than 5% within one trade day  without any relevant explanation, one cannot refrain from suspecting a flaw in the data system. Transparency rules, accounting standards are poor comfort for people when these standards are insufficiently explained.

The right mesure remains to be found.
