“Financial Economy” of “Financing the Economy”?

The recognition of economics as a social science in its own right is undisputed for now.

The chief priests of the economy have however become accustomed to express views as specialists. And so they talk about macro economy, micro economy, political economy, industrial economy, economy of services, ecological economy … The financial economy is in turn the subject of dedicated research published in France by the fully legitimate REF (“Revue d’Economie Financière”)

Should one conclude that such fragmentation makes sense?

Insofar as one aims at clarifying the economic reasoning in each specialty, the answer is probably yes. However, such approach carries the risk of moving a little bit to far away from the “real economy.” Financial analysts are well aware of this danger.

The “Financial Economy” is therefore highly recommendable provided that the issue at stake remains “Financing the Economy”!
